Euripides was born in Salamis Island, Greece around 485 BC. Euripides was one of the great Athenian playwrights and poets of ancient Greece, known for the many tragedies he wrote, including ‘Medea’ and ‘The Bacchae.’
Along with Aeschylus and Sophocles, Euripides wrote approximately 90 plays, 19 of which have survived through manuscripts. Unique among writers of ancient Athens, Euripides demonstrated sympathy towards the underrepresented members of society. He died in Macedonia in 406 B.C.
